When Jell-O asked us to prove that their pudding brand was known around the world for inspiring happiness, we created the Pudding Face Mood Meter, a real-time index of the world’s mood, powered by Twitter.

Every seven seconds it scraped Twitter for smiles and frowns, reflecting the world’s mood on a live website and real-time billboard in SOHO. When happiness dipped, we sent out free pudding to cheer people up. The system didn’t just work for Jell-O; a team at the MIT Media Lab later used the backend we built to predict global market trends in real time.
